Deep, Deep, Deep Within Where Happiness Comes From

63

By amillar

Deep, deep, deep within,
Where happiness comes from,
Where chuckles and grins a' begin,
An' shoogle the diaphragm.
Are our dreams,
O' mountain streams,
An' fresh and healthy foods?
And happy talk,
An' sprightly walks,
Through meadows and by woods?

Right up there in our noddles,
Where neurons need to function,
Do we take the trouble t' mollycoddle,
And lubricate the junctions?
Do we give 'em enough,
O' the kind o' stuff,
That gets electrons zingin'?
Along the paths,
Of giggles and laughs,
An' cheerful ditty singin?

In 'n' around each human being,
There are the building blocks,
Of each an' every living thing,
And even yar sweaty socks,
The nails on yar toes,
The snot in yar nose,
In every nook 'n' crannie,
Genetic design,
Will so define,
Whatever we are to be.

Deep, deep, deep inside,
Yar Mum implanted trust,
Even though ya' deflated 'er pride,
An' the bountiful bounce o' 'er bust.
Do neurotransmitters,
Get quicker an' fitter,
Buoyed up on omega 3?
And is yar wealth,
The sum o' the health,
O' yar love an' empathy?

Yet deep, too, here within,
There niggles a want o' status,
The root o' many o' our sins
That divide us and debase us,
Confusin' need,
Wi' lust an' greed,
Desire with necessity,
An' when possession,
Becomes obsession,
Denial o' humanity.

Deep, deep inside somewhere,
When happiness has gone,
There waits the child who disappeared,
Beneath, behind, beyond,
Where hope once thrived,
An' bein' alive,
Was the joy it ought to be,
Till the dreams we pursued,
Left us to brood,
On what was not to be.

But pick our nebs or pick guitar,
Or pick our style o' jeans,
We can't pick the way we are,
Where nature picks the genes,
Yet we can learn,
To laugh again,
And find where to begin,
T' follow the track,
That leads us back,
T' the happy child within.

Somewhere deep in there,
There is the you that was,
Who sniggered 'n' giggled without a care,
And wrinkled a freckled nose
Wi' chortles an' smirks,
An' physical jerks,
T' clear befuddled brains,
Releasin' endorphins,
An' doin' it often,
T' soothe life's stresses an' strains.

So then, where to begin?
Is it under lock and key?
Or is it in, the struggles we win,
O'er money and property?
Or to be found,
All around,
Not even hidden away?
In clean fresh air,
And healthy fare,
An' the kindly things we say?

Deep, deep, deep within,
Where calcium turns t' bone,
Where phytonutrients replenish the skin,
An' energise the brain,
Where laughter begins,
An' chuckles and grins,
Are waitin' t' tumble free,
From deep, deep, deep within,
The depths of you and me.

to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;

This is great - all so true and practical, too. Making good choices, feeding good thoughts. What we put in there - that's all "in there" has to work with! Bravo, amillar!!

Thank you Nellieanna, for visiting, and for your kind comment. "What we put in there - that's all "in there"", as you say - I couldn't have put it better myself.

After I got past the snot I think I started seeing a real poet hiding behind a joke. I miss giggle ways and have fun days. Give us more soon. Very good.

Hiya Polly,

I don't suppose I'll be the first or the last would-be-poet who hides behind jokes and snot. It kind of counteracts the tweeness. That's not very macho.

Thank you for dropping by - it's nice to get your feedback.

I try my hand at poetry from time to time Tony. It's one of these things that I just do when get the inspiration. I suppose that's what happens with most of my hubs. That's why most of them are rants and moans.

Thanks for dropping by again.

SECRETS OF HAPPINESS By BERNARD LEVINE

Kindness is the most

beautiful jewel in the world.

Love means having consideration

for each other.

The seeds you sow today

will be your fruit of tomorrow.

Fill your day with prayer

and your life with blessings.

Happiness is contentment

from within.

Find a dream to follow

that will stimulate your mind.

Make laughter your partner

through life.

Be prepared to fight

for what you want or believe in.

Remember - every day is a new beginning.
